Video Share: Should You Post Non-Library Content on Your Library's Social Media Account?

As done in yesterday's post by blog team member Michele, you can share easily share YouTube videos on Blogger and there are a few different ways to do this. Here is another video from Angela Hursh, who creates great videos covering the topics of libraries and social media. Here, I took the embed code from the video's "share feature" and used it to put into this blog entry.

The "share" feature is below the video on its own YouTube page and the options open after clicking on this arrow.

After a small window opens, "embed" begins the list of share options. The brackets "< >" indicate this is going to be a piece of HTML code you will insert into the blog entry.
With any of these share options, you can choose where the video will start on your blog entry by clicking "Start at..." and enter the time stamp. This can be useful if you want the reader to easily access the most relevant information from the video. Otherwise, the default will be from the start.

After clicking on the Embed icon, the embed code appears and can easily be copied by simply clicking "copy" in the lower right corner.

Once you have the embed code, go into the right hand side of the tool bar and click the pen icon.

This will give you the option to edit the blog entry in "HTML view" and "compose view."

Once you're in HTML view, paste the embed code into the entry.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/X_xIyYP8lic?si=E2kr6RltUowcd3VQ" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's better to do this before you add any more content to your entry.

The Easy Way
If you do not want to deal with HTML code, there is an easier way to share. With the share options for the YouTube video, you can click the arrows on the sides of the window to get to where Blogger shows up as a share option, This is similar to what was discussed in "Article Share" where sharing an article or blog entry can easily be shared to a Blogger-hosted blog like ours.

After you select Blogger, you will be able to share the video in a new blog entry without having to go through the trouble of pasting in a piece of code. After that, you will show your readers the video that will help them learn more about a topic covered in libraries and social media.
